Review Policy

Any review request must be sent to I only ask this because a lot of people have been sending them to zaheerah@astoldbyzaheerah and this can cause emails to be missed. I must also warn that I do not consent to be signed up to anyone’s personal mailing list or website. Please, don’t do this.

What type of book do you read?

I read a variety of genres and I particularly enjoy science fiction and fantasy. I started my site as a teen so much of my reading choices were young adult, but I’m looking to expand on my reading! Below are some of my favourite books and books I’ve really enjoyed!

Creating a review policy is rather difficult for me because I’m a very open reader and I tend to not gravitate towards a certain category of books but rather if it piques my interest, then I would love to read it. I especially encourage writers of diverse fiction to feel more than free to contact me. I want to make a better effort to read books with protagonists that are BIPOC or LGBTQ+ as well as books by other #OwnVoices authors.

However, I am NOT accepting books in the following genres:

  • Biographies/memoirs
  • Erotica

Formats I accept

  • physical copy (no preference of type)
  • mobi/epub

I am an avid user of NetGalley and I am registered with the account email:

Accepting books and when do you post reviews?

I like to post at least twice a week, and in advance, so unless you require a certain post date, there can be up to a month delay between me reading a book and the post date of the review.

If I accept a book for review, that will most likely guarantee a review. (I will reply to your email when I accept the request) And if you have a certain release date: I will make every effort to read and review in a good time and with regard to release dates.

I will write a review for almost every book I finish. I will write them as fairly as I can, but this does not mean I will always write positive reviews. My reviews are my opinion, and if I don’t enjoy a book then my review will reflect that. I will try to explain why the book in question did not work for me personally. By sending a review request to me, you are acknowledging that a review may be negative.

I should note that any book I read, even if I think it’s one of the best things I’ve read, will most likely have something negative- but not like horribly negative. I might just point out certain things I didn’t like. (certain arc, characters, language maybe…) Of course, I’m no professional, just a person who likes to write. But all reviews are my own opinions. So please, don’t hate on me if I ever give any of your books a negative review

Star Rating:

I use the Goodreads star rating. Goodreads uses a 5 star rating system however I’ve tweaked the definitions slightly:

1 star – I hated it

2 stars – I didn’t like it – may have 1 redeeming quality (writing style, a certain character, etc).

3 stars – It was okay but could’ve been better. Honestly, this is a neutral rating for me, personally. A review will reflect what did and didn’t work for me.

4 stars – really liked it, it has at least a couple interesting qualities. Only a few limitations noted.

5 stars – I loved it! Maybe a new favourite! Only minor limitations noted.

All reviews are cross-posted to multiple websites, these include Goodreads, and Amazon, and this blog.

I can be contacted for reviews or questions at I do not consent anyone using my email addresses to sign up for mailing lists.

On Goodreads, I review under the name Zaheerah.

  1. Hello there, I think your blog could possibly be having internet browser compatibility problems. Whenever I look at your website in Safari, it looks fine but when opening in I.E., it has some overlapping issues. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other than that, excellent blog!|

  2. Hi Zaheerah,
I just tried emailing you for a book review request, but it bounced back as undeliverable. I see on your Twitter that you have recently registered , and I wonder if maybe that is causing some conflict with your email setup.
