#1KBE wrap up

I’m actually quite impressed with myself. For once I completed a reading a challenge with loads of time to spare. (Granted, it was only four books but I actually started late and I also read other books in the same time) I could’ve tried and squeezed a couple of more books from the other authors but I’ve been pressed for time since I’m working more and my sister is getting married next month. I managed to complete the top line of authors and here is my wrap up and thoughts on the books I had read. (Full reviews of each book excluding Hungry will be published soon!)

Part of the journal spread I made. Hungry didn’t have a cover since it was published on Tumblr. Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

SQUARE ONE: Cindy Pon

The book I chose: WANT

I think this may have been my favourite story of the four. A sci-fi adventure set in futuristic Taipei, following a group of friends who plan a heist into Jin Corp, the company creating the suits which separate the Meis and Yous, the rich and poor. A brilliant story with great group dynamics.

SQUARE TWO: Shveta Thakrar

The book I chose: HUNGRY (I accidentally titled it Hunger in the graphics)

They were prey, nothing more. Food to sate the appetite.

A cool tale about an immortal female creature waking up in the modern world after being turned to stone centuries ago. It was really interesting and really captures your attention in such a short time.

SQUARE THREE: Melissa de la Cruz

The book I chose: Something in Between

A Filipino teen discovered her and her family are undocumented after being awarded a prestigious award. A cute story about identity and first love.

SQUARE FOUR: Renee Ahdieh

The book I chose: The Wrath and the Dawn

A fantasy retelling of 1001 nights. Very atmospheric and beautiful to read with complex characters and gorgeous prose. I had a few issues with the main leads and their characterisation but the plot is great.

  1. These all sound really, really good! I’m a bit sad you weren’t able to pick up a book by Julie Kagawa. She’s one of my favorite fantasy authors ever! Cannot recommend her works enough. ❤️

Anyway, I look forward to reading your reviews of these titles! 😊
