Monthly Rewind: October 2024

L I F E

Hi, this is a very delayed month rewind post because my wifi went out for a few days in early November, so enjoy a late post! Not much for October this year! I did attend the October MCM Comic Con, which was chaotic and fun! I will not be looking at my bank account for the next few days to see the devastating impact of Artist Alley. I also completely forgot to take pictures, so here is the one picture I have of a Wukong cosplayer!

I was hoping someone would cosplay as him, and I was not disappointed. It was hilarious that we spotted the top of his outfit before seeing him in the crowds. I know it’s hotly contested on whether Black Myth: Wu Kong is a soulslike game or not, but after watching my brother play parts of the game, I’m not so sure if someone like me – who has the reaction speed of a snail – would even be able to get 30 minutes into the game so I just stuck to watching a playthrough.😂

Consider this the corner of shame. I didn’t have time to work on any art this month. 😭😭😭😭

For transparency, books marked with an asterisk (*) signify books I received through work at PRH.

A quick and wonderful story follows the lives of 5 different people who visit a mysterious clinic in Kyoto that prescribes their patients’ cats as medication. I picked this up at work as my train ride home read, and it was sooo sweet.

A stunning collection of witchy folklore spanning different mythological and cultural backgrounds. Each archetype is categorised into one Major Arcana tarot card with beautiful illustrations.

Touma and Sentarou reunite at their ex-girlfriend’s funeral and discover that she has left behind a young daughter. Ririko states in her will a DNA test must not be taken; instead, the two potential fathers must get to know the child, and she will decide on her father after 3 months. These people are better than me because I would’ve ordered a DNA first-class delivery. But this story was surprisingly hilarious and had really nice art! Generally, the child is very timid and shy in these types of stories. But, Meguru is such a boisterous child – this child’s attitude is even more entertaining than her two potential fathers.

I found this through TikTok! I had come across the author’s post in August where he spoke about the cover design for his book, and I was OBSESSED with the art, so I bought this on Kindle when it was released in October. Then I discovered that Alistair Reeves would be at Comic-Con, selling his own art and other works! So I bought him a physical copy of the book to sign as he wasn’t selling physical copies at the con. This is an MLM romance about a witch sent to a remote island to follow his prophecy and discover the truth behind the curse slowly killing him. It’s so cute and funny, and I could not stop yapping about this on the stream and my Discord. I am already beyond hyped for Alistair Reeves’ next book in the series.

If you follow me on Twitch, then you’ll know we absolutely loved playing Cult of the Lamb on stream earlier this year! The Twitch integration feature, which lets you name cult members after people in chat, was such a fun game feature! So, I was excited to see a graphic novel adaptation of the game! If you haven’t played COTL yet, it follows a Lamb who was sacrificed and revived to form a cult under the name of an imprisoned entity. The main game playstyle is a roguelike with aspects of a farming simulator. The graphic novel adaptation is a great starter for newcomers and a fun companion novel for existing fans!
