2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To

2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To

I just realised I haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday since June. I think towards the end of the year, I went really downhill on my posting but I’m hoping to get my site get active this year. And TTT are such a fun and easy way to do it! And I think this topic was made for me. I’m a very slow reader, contrary to others around me who think I’m very fast because I read a lot of books, but I’m slow when it comes round to reading new releases. I’ve even dedicated the first two months of the year clearing my TBR so it’s less daunting and more manageable. But let’s get on with this week’s top ten 2016 releases I meant to read but didn’t. (In my case, it’s every book of 2016 lmao)

1) Girl Against the Universe

22297294Maguire is bad luck.

No matter how many charms she buys off the internet or good luck rituals she performs each morning, horrible things happen when Maguire is around. Like that time the rollercoaster jumped off its tracks. Or the time the house next door caught on fire. Or that time her brother, father, and uncle were all killed in a car crash—and Maguire walked away with barely a scratch.

It’s safest for Maguire to hide out in her room, where she can cause less damage and avoid meeting new people who she could hurt. But then she meets Jordy, an aspiring tennis star. Jordy is confident, talented, and lucky, and he’s convinced he can help Maguire break her unlucky streak. Maguire knows that the best thing she can do for Jordy is to stay away. But it turns out staying away is harder than she thought.

MY THOUGHTS: I have literally heard nothing by goods things about this book from everyone I follow so this one has slowly been edging its way up my TBR.

Need to be on TV

ttt_tvweek.jpg

TOP TEN TUESDAY IS A WEEKLY FEATURE HOSTED BY THE BROKE AND THE BOOKISH! EACH WEEK, A NEW TOPIC IS PUT INTO PLACE AND BLOGGERS SHARE THEIR TOP TEN (OR YOUR OWN AMOUNT) ACCORDINGLY.

Ink and Bone

I would literally give anything to see Ink and Bone as a T.V. show (for some reason, I would prefer it to be on Netflix) I have SO many ideas of who I would like to play each character. (Aside from Khalila, I don’t have a definitive FC for her yet)

The Song of Achilles

Out of all the books on my list, TSOA, I think, is the only one which has been optioned for a possible mini-series and I’m so excited!!  The producers of BBC’s Peaky Blinders has the rights to it and I so hope it happens soon because I love TSOA.

Demon Road

While I wasn’t a huge fan of book two, the whole concept and plot of Demon Road is something I would love to see on TV. Similar in the style of Supernatural, maybe?

The Name of the Star

I was super interested in Jack the Ripper when I was 15 for some reason and so TNOTS is something I could definitely see as a BBC programme.

Seven Ways We Lie

I wasn’t sure if this had rights for TV because I remember Riley mentioning something about. So I check and it does!!! It’s currently in development since June 2016. The producer has worked on a load of other films, Ella Enchanted being one of them.

Radio Silence

PLEASE, I WANT RADIO SILENCE AS A SHOW SO BAD. I CAN TELL IT WOULD BE SO CUTE AND ADORABLE AND AMAZING.

The Foxhole Court

Someone, anyone, please send millions of copies of TFC to Netflix HQ, thank you.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet

Somewhere within our crowded sky, a crew of wormhole builders hops from planet to planet, on their way to the job of a lifetime. To the galaxy at large, humanity is a minor species, and one patched-up construction vessel is a mere speck on the starchart. This is an everyday sort of ship, just trying to get from here to there.

But all voyages leave their mark, and even the most ordinary of people have stories worth telling. A young Martian woman, hoping the vastness of space will put some distance between herself and the life she‘s left behind. An alien pilot, navigating life without her own kind. A pacifist captain, awaiting the return of a loved one at war.

ImAGINE THIS AS A SHOW. IMAGINE HOW BEAUTIFUL IT WOULD BE.

The Darren Shan Saga

I’m going to pretend that the mess that was the Cirque Du Freak movie didn’t happen. I had put myself all through that mess just for the story and Josh Hutcherson. And they completely ruined the story! So I would love to see a TV where they didn’t replace a Debbie with a silly monkey girl.

Thief

Thief is one of my favourite Malorie Blackman novels, but I’ve recently heard that Noughts & Crosses may become a show so I’m glad something of hers is coming to TV.

As of writing this post, my education path is somewhat unsteady right now. I didn’t get into my Uni place, and was unable to take the foundation course since they ran out of spaces so quickly. So right now I’m waiting on my college to respond back about me coming back to college to do a third year and retaking a couple of my exams. I had so many ideas about what I wanted to do for this week but I decided to make a top seven list of books I’ve read for school/college (in no particular order)

  1. The Iliad – I had taken Classics at college and in the first year we studied The Iliad. It was one of the best books I’ve read for school and it’s one of my all time favourites now. (And because of this I ended up reading The Song of Achilles which is also a favourite so yay!)
  2. Of Mice and Men – The amount of copies of this book we had at secondary school which had ‘george kills lennie’ on the front page was so silly but so funny.
  3. An Inspector Calls – So much suspense, it was great and the arguments everyone had over who was to blame was so funny.
  4. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry – One of the first books I had read about racism and class distinction. The English department at my secondary school could never really keep up with the books we had to read so we never finished this in class but I was glad I decided to finish it on my own.
  5. The Alex Rider series – I read half the series in primary school with my reading group but we never got to finish the series since everyone kept mucking around. I hope to finish this series one day when I have the time.
  6. Women’s Life in Greece and Rome – This was a source book we had to read for the other half of classics in college and it was so interesting to read about the lives of women who lived in Athens. My favourite was Neaera !!
  7. The Clouds – Even to this day, I still don’t understand the Clouds but it was a strange and hilarious read.

Second the best

Chowder from Check, please!
I don’t think I’ve spoken enough of Check, please which is a damn shame because it’s so amazing. Chowder is one of the later characters since he joins while Bitty is in his second year and he’s so adorable. He just wants to play hockey and makes sure his friends are happy. Check, please! is actually a webcomic but sometimes the artist occasionally sells physical copies (YOU CAN READ IT HERE FOR FREE!! PLS READ AND THANK ME LATER )

Briseis from The Song of Achilles
While we don’t get to see much of Briseis in the Iliad, we delve more into her story TSOA and I just really appreciate that Miller added more depth to her character and gave her a backstory.

Rene Walker from All For The Game
Honestly, one of the best characters in the series. Don’t @ me, we all know it’s true.

Khalila Seif from The Great Library
MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE CHARACTER.

Maia Roberts from The Mortal Instruments
You all know how much I don’t like TMI but Maia Roberts was a character I really liked but her story arc was the worst and it felt like CC barely even tried with her character. But I am #MaiaRobertsDefenseSquad since the hate for her is so unnecessary.

Niccolo Santi from The Great Library
MY FAVOURITE. Honestly, his boyfriend basically adopts the Postulants when he wasn’t looking and now he’s an exasperated father of like ten kids and it’s amazing.

Kevin Day from All For The Game
His character development was one of the best in the series, giving us one of the best scenes in the entire series.

“Let Riko be King,” Kevin said, with the exaggerated enunciation of the thoroughly sloshed. “Most coveted, most protected. He’ll sacrifice every piece he has to protect his throne. Whatever. Me?” Kevin gestured again, meaning to indicate himself but too drunk to get his hand higher than his waist. “I’m going to be the deadliest piece on the board.”

David Wymack from All For The Game
Listen, Coach Wymack is so under appreciated. He loves and cares for his foxes so much and he is such an important character.

Victor Krum from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
He was so humble and I liked that his fame annoyed him rather than enlarging his ego. And he was so friendly with Harry despite competing against him.

Scorpius Malfoy from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Such a precious and pure character. Can you believe the wizarding community thought he was Voldemort’s son? (TBH it’s the same community that didn’t believe Voldemort was coming back until he physically came back….)

About the blogger!

  1. I’m a twin! – You know how every first day at anything often means you have to give one interesting fact about yourself? Well, this is my go to fact. And we’re fraternal as well.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset
    Zakiyah and Me!
  2. I am the third child of five kids. (Growing up consisted of mainly ‘wooow how do your parents manage??’ I don’t mention the fact my mum is the eldest of seven….. I think five is nothing to her)
  3. Both my parents were born in Bangladesh, while me and my sibling were born in the UK
  4. I hope to study Anthropology and Geography in university. (that is if I get the grades ahah…. AQA crushed the hopes and dreams of many students this summer with their sociology exam, including mine)
  5. The reason I started book blogging was quite simple. I just wanted to talk about books I’ve read. I don’t come from a family that takes pride in reading books. And most of the books I’ve read, no one I know in real life knows what they are. I just needed a place to vent. Also, I want to be an author, hopefully, and using my blog and writing reviews actually help me a lot with my writing process.
  6. I actually started this blog back in 2013. I used it to upload my own writing and projects that I started but didn’t want to continue. But I went silent for a couple of years until I started college in 2014. And my friend from a gaming class got me into Goodreads after the drive back from Eurogamer that year. We did a thing where we went through the email we received from BookBub and chose the strangest book we found and read it together.Which later led me to restart this entire blog. Cleaned it out, learned how to use spellcheck, and began writing for reading and reviews.
  7. Contrary to how I seem in some of my reviews, I’m actually a very nice, easygoing person. While in some of my review, I’ve been told that I come across as rude. I am sarcastic at time, but I never aim to be malicious.
  8. Posting negative reviews scare me shitless. Especially when it’s a review of a well-loved book/series.
  9. I am currently watching;
    1. Criminal Minds
    2. White Collar
    3. OITNB
    4. iZombie
I also realised I have a thing for crime shows lmao….
  10. I am currently reading (at time of writing)
    1. Wonder Women
    2. Been Here All Along
    3. The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett
    4. A Boy Made of Blocks
