Monthly Rewind: November 2016

  • I completed NaNoWriMo! – One month and over 50,000 words later, I achieved completing NaNo. While my document is nowhere near where I want it to be, I’m just glad I have something written down.
  • I made a new library card – For the library here in Brighton, my dad made me a card when it first opened up and I used to go all the time. But more recently I’ve decided to start using my library again. And I think I went overboard with books. I learnt that you can borrow up to 40 books! And while I didn’t take out 40 (….yet) I ended up borrowing nine books and I’ve only had this card for like three days!

  • #DiversityDecBingo recommendation – I’m cheating with this one because it was posted December 1st but shhhh. This is my ever time doing something like this and I’m so excited.
  • Bookish Gifts – Etsy Edition – So many cute bookish gift idea. Also, I need those e-reader covers now!
  • Bad Habits – Okay but number 5 is actually me. I went to go return We Were Liars and left the library with five more books.
  • When the moon was ours wallpaper – I haven’t read When The Moon Was Ours yet but oh my gosh, these wallpapers are the cutest things in the world!

That’s it for this month! Tell me what went on in YOUR life this month! What sort of things were important for you this month? New obsessions? New TV shows? Or book? Any new song recs (I’m always open for new music!)? Best books you read this month?

Monthly Rewind: October 2016

Looking back on this month, it was pretty boring. I read very little, wrote very little and worked most of this month. Aside from deciding to go on holiday to Morocco in December with my family, October was a quiet month.  I was overwhelmed with now having to work from home and having to go through UCAS on my own again, so I didn’t get much done this month, unfortunately!

I read 5 books this month! Eek! It was such a slow reading month for me. Might be the same again because of NaNo.

  • Last month, I mentioned College. I managed to get back in but it only lasted three days after the College administration realised that they had made an error and weren’t supposed to let me back in. So, yeah, that was fun. (Not.) So now I’m retaking independently. (If only the exams office can actually reply to my damn emails….)
  • I found out that my offical Patronus is a Black Mamba, which is a snake endemic to Africa. How fitting considering I’m a Slytherin.
  • Preparing for NaNoWriMo 2016 – I will definitely be writing for November. Once they’ve updated the website, I’ll share my name and novel. If anyone else is doing it this year, I would love to share a cabin!
  • I made my first ever tag! The Great British Bake Off book tag! And geniunely thought no one was going to complete the tag but people did! Still can’t believe it! Here are some of them!!

I read 9 books this month!

  • It’s Canon: School Stories Featuring M/M Relationships – A response to the Cursed Child’s missed opportuntiy for LGTB+ representation by listing other books/comics where there’s a M/M relationship set in a school environment. This article caught my eye because I saw Check, please! but now I’ve found a couple of new books to add to my TBR!!
  • Blogging while drowning under school work: A Guide – Could have definitely used this two years ago when I started this blog and college at the same time! I’m retaking my A2 exams but not returning to college but nonetheless this is useful!

Monthly Rewind: August 2016

  • Results day 😥 – AKA possibly one of the worst moments of my life, Tbh. I just missed the expected grades I needed to get into Sussex. I was sorely disappointed, mainly because they don’t take into consideration my EPQ grade which I got an A in. My plan now is to retake my exams by taking a third year but the college is being so frustrating!!! I asked if I could immediately apply for a third year on results day but a senior at college told me not to do it!! She said it would be better to take a foundation course so that I automatically get into my chosen course. But I felt more comfortable paying for my retakes rather than adding an extra 9K in student loans. I tried my luck with the foundation course but they were filled up already and now I’m getting no response from college about the third year 😭😭
  • Visited family in London – Since we couldn’t go last month on Eid, we decided to go this month for a couple of days since my aunt recently have birth to her first child, a baby girl!!
  • Got a job!! – probably one if the few good things that happened this month. It’s a part time waitressing job at a restaurant. The pay is minimum wage and its alright for me since this is one of my first proper job. I intend to really just stay there for a couple of months for the experience until I find something better.

Monthly Rewind: July 2016

Please excuse the moody look but the lighting was A+

Celebrated Eid! –  This year was a strange Eid because we usually split our time – the first half of the day staying at my grandma’s house (dad’s side) and seeing all my relatives from his side before going up to London to see my other grandma and aunts (and my many, many cousins – I currently have eleven cousins, with another one due soon and I recently found out another one of my aunt’s pregnant again so YAY more cute babies to come!) But this year we didn’t go to London which was really sad because I haven’t seen them at all this year. 😦

  • The first month of no college! – I finished college back in late June. And BOY was it stressful. It made July such a strange month because I wasn’t following my college timetable and it left me with so much free time. I also tried to look for a job but, sadly, received no response to the many places I applied to.
  • Attempted to sort out my writing – This blog was originally created back in 2013 as a place to write my own original stuff. But since restarting this blog in 2015, I realised there was a lack of original writing. And since I know I definitely want to write a book in future, I’m just not sure what? So this month, I went through everything I had that resembled a decent story. And began plotting. (I hope to start writing more posts about my writing process) I realised that I had written basic plotlines to four different stories. (The one I have my eye on was based on a childhood game I played when I was little with my cousins which were about a group of female pirates that travelled the world going on adventures with mythical creatures)
