Frances only had one thing on her mind –  study and make it into one of the UK’s elite schools. But when she finds out her friend Aled is the mysterious voice behind her all-time favourite podcast she finds a new sort of friendship in Aled and Universe City. But when it goes viral everything comes crashing down, and Frances has to confront her past.

I really enjoyed Radio Silence. Although I do tend to stray away from YA novels that attempt to mix in fandom into its plot because I often find it doesn’t use fandom as well as it could. But I really enjoyed how Alice used fandom to show the beauty and danger of the internet while creating a stable novel about choices, and whichever path you take doesn’t matter, so long as you decide the course of your future. Frances’ experiences felt so true to me, as someone who is currently in the position she’s in- the transition from college to university is scary. Frances has such a significant character development- from a quiet girl who doesn’t feel comfortable about talking what she likes to openly enjoy all the strange things she thought people would judge her for.

I usually don’t pick up books on whim because I like to know exactly what I’m getting into so I don’t end up reading something I don’t like but I tried to make some sort of list of books that I consider being picked on a whim.

Rebel of the Sands – Alwyn Hamilton

Rebels was a definite whim book, and only because I bought Midnight Bites and it was a buy one get one half price sale with YA novels in Waterstones.

The Foxhole Court – Nora Sakavic

One of the best books I’ve picked up on a whim, to be honest.

All the Feels
All The Feels by Danika Stone

Technically, I didn’t pick this one up – I was just randomly browsing through SwoonReads.com and read it. (It ended up being one of the books that Swoon Reads will publish!)

Check, Please! – Ngozi Ukazu

If you haven’t read Check, please! yet PLEASE DO ITS SO GOOD. ITS A WEBCOMIC AND YOU CAN READ THE ENTIRE THING FOR FREE ON TUMBLR. THIS ONE WAS A GOOD WHIM CHOICE. (HERE)

  • Andreil (Andrew & Neil from All For The Game) – Well, actually, we already know how their lives play out, thanks to Nora’s extra content on Tumblr. But I would so love to read a novella (or a another trilogy lmao) of the full story of them calling their damn cats sir fat cat mccatterson and king fluffkins. (how am I supposed to take these angsty boys seriously when they name their cats THOSE NAMES)
  • Parker Grant (Not If I See You First) – OKAY THE ENDING WAS REALLY OBVIOUS BUT REALLY VAGUE. But I liked her enough to want to know how her life is going now.
  • Literally anyone in the series (Saga of Darren Shan) – Tbh, I want a huge novel of everything that happened after Darren.
  • Madeleine (Everything, Everything) – imagine living your life thinking you’re allergic to the world and then finding out you’re not. I think it would be interesting to see how Maddy learns the world around her.
  • Rose (How I Found You) – The ending was weird, and the story wrapped up too quickly and fast
  • Penryn and Raffe (Penryn and the end of days) – I thought the ending was disappointing and it would be cool to see what happens after the whole war.
  • Amy Dunn (Gone Girl) – Seeing Amy as a mother would be …..interesting.
  • Aristotle and Dante (Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe) – They were so cute, I need to see their future. EDIT: I JUST FOUND OUT THERE’S GOING TO BE A SEQUEL FJDJDFJDIFJ
  • Ryden (What You Left Behind) – I wouldn’t even need a novella/book for this. A short paragraph to know what happens later would be nice. I felt quite bad for him for the majority of the novel so I like to know what happens after with him and his daughter, Hope.
  • Claudia Miravista (Behind the Canvas) – the ending for this was so sad. I just want to know if Claudia’s alright. And if she ever went back into the world of paintings again.

Top Ten Bookworm Delights

Top Ten Bookworm Delights
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! Each week, a new topic is put into place and bloggers share their top ten accordingly. Bookworm delights refers to book related experiences that make you happy!
  1. Looking for books at used book shops/ charity shops- I’m a broke student okay most books I own are either presents or from charity stores lmao
  2. Stumbling across a random book series by accident and loving it – I love that feeling when you come across a book/series that isn’t well known, usually self-published one, and find yourself falling in love with that story SO much and you just want to chuck the book at anyone and everything. (see: The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic)
  3. Stunning book covers – We’ve all been there, picked up a book and saw the blurb and thought “ok sounds good but what the actual fuck is that cover tho?” (sometimes if they have ugly covers, I like to re-imagine better ones for them in my head) But every now and then, you’ll see a book with such a pretty cover that you spend more time looking at the cover rather than reading it. (see: Rebels of the Sand – Alwyn Hamilton – this post is on a queue and I bet I still haven’t read the book yet when it’s posted)
  4. GLOW IN THE DARK COVERS – ok the only series I’ve read that had these were Morganville Vampires and I’m still low key bitter that they changed them halfway through the series.
  5. Designs on hardback copies (without the dust jacket on) – I don’t even know how to explain this haha. But I like it when hardback copies aren’t plain. Here’s an example:

  6. When the title of the book is referenced in the book – ok I’m really picky about this but I only liked it when the title is referenced without being really obvious. (sorry thg and divergent, you don’t count this time) A great example would be Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine (k i love this book to death and will most likely never stop talking about it) I actually had no idea how the title fit with the story until the quote “You have ink in your blood, boy, and no help for it. Books will never be just a business to you.” There’s also another quote but I can’t find it right now. And then it made sense, and it made me a bit giddy and more excited to read it. lmao this is so poorly explained but yeah, I like it.
  7. Watching a book fandom grow – This is related to The Foxhole Court. Since I joined that book fandom in late Jan/ early Feb, and the fandom was small and in the span of a month, it exploded and it was AMAZING. So many new headcanons, fanart and fanfic! (I’m so going to make this happen to Ink and Bone – any bookish person needs to read it)
  8.  Meeting someone who likes to read the same things you do – This isn’t very common for me since I don’t know many bookish people in real life so actually meeting someone who liked (or dislike!) the same stuff as me is rare.
  9. Knowing you have all the time in the world to sit and enjoy your book – Right now, I’m in exam frenzy so I barely have time to sit and fully enjoy book. (July 23rd needs to come soon!)
  10. Someone loving a book you recommended – For some reason, I am incapable of not talking about Ink and Bone or The Foxhole Court in this post. I made my cousin read Ink and Bone, and she finished the whole book in three hours! We spend ages face timing talking about it, and fangirling over Khario (Dario x Khalila – the best otp in that book – Wolfe and Santi are a close second.) My Tumblr has been a TFC mess recently, and it made me happy that someone saw that mess and decided to read the series as well.

my review:
Rating: ★★☆☆☆

~Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review~

Girls had to believe in everything but their own power, because if girls knew what they could do, imagine what they might.

I have no recollection of requesting this on NetGalley, but I read it anyway since I hate leaving books unread on NG. But this book just wasn’t for me.

In the wake of a popular high school student’s suicide, it sends tremors throughout a conservative town. Hannah befriends Lacey and, together, they form an intimate friendship, luring Hannah into a lifestyle of rebellion and violence, as they bond over their hatred of Nikki, the deceased’s girlfriend.

While the writing was enjoyable, I just found the plot too repetitive and it became tiresome. I haven’t read many books like these – those bad obsessive girls type of books. But this showed me that maybe it’s not my type. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting the reveal and it’s ending – mainly because I didn’t expect Hannah to be capable of doing so. But there’s not much else I can say, I’m very picky when it comes to contemporary, and though the writing style was nice, I just didn’t find it enjoyable to read.

This or That – Book Tag

This or That – Book Tag

I was tagged by Joey @ Thoughts and Afterthoughts. Thank you for tagging me!

One: Reading on the couch or on the bed?

Bed. My house is too busy for the sofa. I always read something before I go to sleep. I shouldn’t because if I like the story too much I wouldn’t go to sleep until I finish it. (Damn you, Captive Prince for messing up my sleep schedule…)

Two: Male main character or female main character?

I don’t care. Just make them well developed with an interesting plot and I’m good

Three: Sweet snacks or salty snacks when reading?

I don’t eat while reading. But maybe tangy sweets?

Four: Trilogies or quartets?

Depends. Actually, I don’t mind. But there seems to be a bigger surge of books as trilogies despite some of them don’t really needing them?

Five: First person point of view or third person point of view?

I’m a bigger fan of third person. But it depends on the story.

Six: Reading at night or in the morning?

I plan my day so that I usually leave myself an hour or so at night before I sleep to read. (As mentioned in Q1, I should stop doing that)

Seven: Libraries or bookstores?

Libraries. I’m broke AF.

Eight: Books that make you laugh or make you cry?

Not many books have made me cry so books that will make me laugh.

Nine: Black book covers or white book covers?

Both, with a leaning towards black, but I like simple minimalistic cover.

Ten: Character driven or plot driven stories?

DEPENDS. But I think I’m more towards plot driven stories.

I tag: (Apologies, if you’ve already been tagged/ completed this, if so, you can ignore this lmao. Also, don’t feel like you have to do this if you don’t want to)
